It Started With a 1969 Camaro
My grandmother bought a 1969 Camaro. I have a picture of myself sitting in that car at ten years old — and from that moment, I was gone. Not just interested. Gone.
Cars have been in my life ever since. I've owned a lot of them. Driven more. Inspected hundreds. And somewhere along the way I realized something that most people never do: cars aren't just machines. They have a comfort level. You become comfortable with them, they become comfortable with you.
If they could talk, I'd know exactly what they were saying. Because I speak car.

What It Means to Speak Car
It's not just mechanical knowledge — though I have plenty of that. It's the smell of an engine that's been running rich for years. The feel of a door panel that's been resprayed. The sound a suspension makes when it's hiding something. These aren't things you learn from a manual. They come from a lifetime of paying attention.
Oil leaks, fresh paint over rust, a transmission that's been running hot — I know what healthy smells like, and what doesn't.
Body filler under paint, a frame that's been straightened, panels that don't sit right. My hands have learned to read what eyes miss.
A knock that only shows up under load. A brake that pulls. A steering box that's worn. The car is always telling you something.

I say that seriously. There's a relationship between a person and a great car — and I've been lucky enough to have it many times over. When I inspect a car for you, I'm not just running through a checklist. I'm listening to it. I'm asking it questions. And I'm going to tell you exactly what it said.
